Review: New Franklin Armory Gen 3 Binary BFS III Trigger—–A Very Fast Firing Trigger!
Franklin Armory released the new BFSIII binary trigger this week. For those not familiar with a binary trigger it’s really very simple with each trigger pull the weapon fires as the trigger is released the weapon fires again. So, each trigger stroke fires two rounds.
The trigger comes with a stick on indicator that shows safe, fire and finally binary. It should pose no problem since the first two settings are identical to any other AR trigger. Normally the third position doesn’t exist on a standard AR trigger and again that activates the binary function on the BFSIII.
One thing I can’t deny about this trigger it is a load of fun set on binary with both rounds striking very close to each other. I’m not sure what the average rate of fire is but it doesn’t take very much practice working the trigger to get as close to automatic fire as I’ve experienced with any other semi-auto trigger. My advice is once this trigger is installed take a good amount of ammo with you to the range the first time out because you won’t want to stop shooting! This short video clip gives you some idea of how fast it is. I got better at manipulating the trigger after the video was shot so consider this a bit less than the max rate of fire. Please excuse the wind noise.
The BFSIII ships with the trigger, two sets of springs (one set stronger than the other) as well as a three position fire selector. The stick on selector indicator is also included. The included instructions are simple and if you have prior experience with building an AR it’s simple to install and follows almost the same steps as installing any other AR trigger. The trigger also works on any 9mm or 22 LR AR15. No modifications are needed. I used it with my CMMG 22 conversion and had no problems. This upgraded model is very reliable. The coating is dark black oxide finish.
Trigger pull on the one I tested measured right at four pounds. The trigger is crisp and feels good. The binary trigger feels nearly the same. You can feel the break for the second shot as the trigger is released. This is one useful trigger for competition and just a good time at the range.
From Franklin Armory:
The revolutionary Binary Firing System™ will be appreciated by three gun competitors, tactical shooters, and recreational enthusiasts. It features a three position selector that allows the user to switch from Mode 1 for Safe, Mode 2 for traditional Semiautomatic Mode, or Mode 3 for Binary Mode. In Binary Mode, the firearm will discharge one roundwith every function of the trigger whether a pull or a release. A user can negate the round that would otherwise be fired during the release function by simply moving the selector back to Mode 2 and then safely releasing the trigger.
